What's New...

July 14, 2008 -  My reason behind doing Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island was to go after a spot to World Championships in Clearwater in November.  I was tapered and ready to go!  Had a decent swim to where I didn't have huge ground to make up on the bike.  Came out of T1 at a nice clip and was setting up a great tempo on the bike for the 56 miles of upcoming hills and flats.  At mile 12 on the bike (first major downhill) I was going 41 mph when I ran over a broken beer bottle and blew my front tire!  Not a fun trip down the rest of the hill needless to say!!  Long story short, I didn't have a spare tire so my day was basically done.  I started to walk back toward the swim start so I could get a ride back to the finish line (45 miles away) when the support vehicle came by.  They couldn't get my tubular tire off of my rim so they pulled an old front wheel from the back of the vehicle so I could finish the race (thanks NBX).  I figured I made the trip up so I might as well finish and have fun with it.  I got back on the bike and figured I would try to leave nothing left on the bike and ride as hard as I could.  I started to hear my good pal, Brian Smith's voice say, "Do what you do and everything will work out."  The exact time off of my bike with the flat was 13 minutes and 2 seconds.  To shave that off of my recorded bike split would have put me at exactly 2:19 or 24.14mph for the 56 miles which would have been a top 10 bike split overall for the day.  That would have given me a total time of 4:27:56 for 5th place.
As far as the run goes, one of the hardest runs I have ever done in a race after pushing hard on the bike.  It kept you honest with a hill that was hilly enough for them to hold the X Games Street Luge on it.  All said and done.  I was happy with it considering I didn't hold back on the bike.
Now for the moral of this long race report.  I went to the awards ceremony with Cuddeback and found out that I got my spot to World Championships!!!  There was a roll down spot and I got it.  Like Jimmy V once said, "Don't Ever Give Up!!)  When you think you are down and out, just pick up your head and keep going!  I owe a lot to Brian for his words that stuck with me throughout the race!!  Thanks Pal!!  Also, a big thanks to Jeff Cuddeback for getting me dialed in for this race.  See you at World Championships in November!

June 22, 2008 -  Great weekend!!  My little sister (Jill Cancelosi) competed in Miami in the Universe Weekend Competition.  She placed 1st in Universe Figure and 3rd in Universe Model.  What a great experience!  We are so proud of Jill and all of the hard work she put into this competition (www.jillcancelosi.com).  Look for her to grace the cover of major magazines in the near future... Oh, I raced out at UCF today in a sprint race and placed 2nd overall.

June 15, 2008 -  Fun race yesterday in Ponte Vedra!  Decent day all around.  No sense in pushing too hard on the bike being it was only 10 miles and the group seemed to be working pretty well.  With exception to only one or two individuals everyone stayed legal and at least took a turn up front setting the pace.  Had a good training day after the race with a 12 mile run and 1 1/2 ride.  Vitargo S2 and NUUN get me through all of my training and racing without any problems.  It is a must have!!

May 6, 2008 -  Off to Mexico tomorrow.  Should be some hot and humid weather.  Great training on the way!!
